My 365 Project-Thought for Today-Extravagant Love

I went to church today, but I was tired when I arrived and feeling a little uninspired. So I closed my eyes frequently and meditated. Really. And when I did, I thought about all the times that friends or perfect strangers extended acts of kindness or love to me that I never expected or necessarily wanted, but I was so grateful to receive it. And I began to think of all the negative energy that I dish out frequently, and I thought to myself, "wouldn’t the world be a much better place if I offered a slice of extravagant grace, forgiveness, or love to someone that’s least expecting it every day, instead of all the negative stuff?" And I realize that some folks wouldn’t understand it, or might even reject it outright. They might even think I’m crazy. But when you come right down to the nitty gritty of life, the only thing that really matters isn’t your money, your possessions, or your career, but how you treat other people. It’s the only thing that counts. I remember the few times in my life that I’ve extended extravagance this way to other people, and it came right back to me a hundred fold. Each and every time.

Regardless of what other people think, I’m going to try to live my life in such a way that I extend extravagant grace, forgiveness and love to others, no matter how hard it may be, or how self-centered I’m feeling at the time. And whether people understand it or not, it doesn’t really matter, does it? Because that’s what life’s all about!

That’s a lot of ice! Ryan found the most amazing engagement ring for Carly I have to say… I hope my girlfriend knows hers won’t be quite so extravagant 😉

Carly and Ryan love doing sushi together, and this was partly my idea and partly theirs. It was incredibly dark in the restaurant, and it was incredibly difficult to keep the ring in the perfect orientation, but I like this shot nonetheless.
